Cichlids

The family Cichlidae is an extremely broad group of fishes. In this family you will find famous aquarium fish like Discus, Angelfish, Jack Dempsey and Oscar. Cichlids can be found in freshwater and brackish water and they are  commonly divided into three groups: South American cichlids, Central and North American cichlids, and African cichlids. In Asia, there is only three known cichlid species; the Canara Pearlspot cichlid, the Orange Chromide and the Green Chromide. Cichlids are found in various environments in many different parts of the world and they have developed to fit into a wide range of different ecological niches. The biggest cichlids, such as the large Boulengerochromismicrolepis, can grow up to 50-100 centimetres (1.6-3.3 feet) while the small Dwarf cichlids stay around 3 centimetres (1.2 inches).
