In the family Cyprinidae you will find a lot of well-known fishes, such as Barbs, Carps, Chubs, Danionins, Rasboras, Roach and Dace. This family is the biggest freshwater family and contains over 2000 known species. The various species belong to over 200 different genera and is found in North America, Eurasia and Africa. They vary in size from the 3 meter / 10 feet long Catlocarpio siamensis to small 2 inches / 5 centimetre species. All Cyprinidae species are egg-layers. Some build nest and/or protect their offspring, but most species are non-guarders.
