Discus

Scientific name: Symphysodon aequifaciatus haraldi

Origin: The Amazon region in South America

Size: The Blue Discus can reach a size of 15 centimetres / 6 inches.

Colour: The Blue Discus is also known as the Turquoise Discus. A Blue Discus with distinct blue lines is called a Royal Blue Discus. If the fish also has red markings, it is called a Red Royal Blue Discus.

Shape: The Blue Discus is naturally discus shaped.

Temperament: You can keep Blue Discus in a community tank. The Discus is a very docile species, and should not be forced to compete for food with assertive species like Angelfish.

Care: Keep at least six Discus fishes together.

Feeding: Feed your discus cut up earth worms and other types of live food. It is also possible to use flake food as a base.

Water conditions: Keep the water temperature in the 25-29° C / 77-84° F range. The pH should be between 6.0 and 6.5.

Breeding: The Blue Discus is considered difficult to breed in captivity. Discus fish are devoted parents and should not be removed from their offspring.
