Neontetra

Scientific name: Paracheirodon innesi

Origin: This fish is native to the Amazon region in South America

Size: The Neon tetra can grow up to 1.5 inches (3.8 centimetres) long.

Colour: The body is bisected by a blue iridescent streak, and under this streak the fish is red. The red coloration does not extend longer than roughly halfway to the nose of the fish. If the entire bottom part of the body is red, it is instead a Cardinal tetra.

Temperament: The Neon tetra is popular in community tanks since it is a non-aggressive species. They are also active and always on the go.

Care: House at least ten Neon Tetras together, since this is a schooling species.

Feeding: You can give your Neon Tetras daphnia, mosquito larvae and other similar small and meaty foods. Neon tetras will also accept flake food.

Gender: A female in breeding condition will have a wider body than a male Neon tetra.

Breeding: The Neon tetra is not considered easy to breed in aquariums and most specimens in the aquarium trade are therefore wild caught. If you want to try breeding Neon tetra, you must provide them with very soft acidic water. One female can produce up to 150 eggs during one spawning. They fry must be feed minuscule food.
